Pay Up Front or Pay Later to Finish Your Book

We resist paying for coaching services to get our book chapters juicy so that our readers are motivated to keep turning the pages. We do it mostly on our own, because we don’t know what we don’t know. We also may resist getting some coaching on marketing our book or business.

I know, I love getting free good information online at article directories, and now even better information on blogs, and in social media forums (groups where discussions are lively) where my primary audience hangs out. But, that’s just step one.

What you may not realize is that when your audience is motivated by your hand-holding and hooks, they will finish your book, they will become your 24/7 sales team, and tell everyone they know about it. Nothing like great word of mouth marketing.

What you may not realize that when you just collect marketing tips from FB, Twitter and Linkedin, and articles without putting them into action, you lose momentum because this plan doesn’t work without doing the actual steps on the page and the web. Feedback on your efforts is the key to your success.

Before I was a book coach, I wrote books and taught seminars on holistic health. One old saying about buying “organic” and eating local produce and meat, was that you can pay now for the higher cost of the good food, or pay later when you get sick enough, and you’ll get that “other” food at a rest home.

Yet, after so much collecting data, one must also think how to put that data into action. How to do the step-by-step work it takes to make it all work enough to bring you the books sales or qualified clients you want.

As Jack Canfield writes in his book, The Success Principles,
“Of all the things successful people do to accelerate their trip down the path to success, participating in some kind of coaching program is at the top of the list.”

Just this week a former client came back to me for four new book and social media sessions. She used 15 of her articles as the middle part of her chapters. Then, from the sessions, she applied all the tips to hook her audience each step of the way to keep reading the book, finishing it, and giving it rave word of mouth reviews. She’s using the 4th session for online marketing-to get her Linkedin presence optimized.

She paid up front, so her yoga book would really sell well to her primary audience-working moms in great distress.

Without coaching to steer you in the right direction to give your audience what they want, you may wonder why your book didn’t sell well or why you don’t have enough clients.

If it’s a matter of cost of coaching, you may want to think about the cost of not being successful, because you thought you could do it alone.
